How to Become a UMass Boston Student

Are you ready to begin your journey to the United States? Follow these steps and you’ll be on the UMass Boston campus before you know it.

Steps

Step 1

Apply

Student selects program of study and submits application online.

Step 2

Review

UMass Boston GSSP reviews application and issues letter of offer, requests more information, or issues denial. 

Step 3

Accept Offer

Student  pays deposit and emails the following to admissions: signed acceptance of offer, receipt of deposit payment, and any other items listed in the letter of offer.

Step 4

I-20 Processing

Student emails complete DCF form, bank statements, and any other requested information to admissions.  UMass Boston GSSP processes I-20 and mails hard copy to student. SEVIS ID and tracking information for the package is emailed to student.

Step 5

Visa Interview

Student receives I-20 and schedules F1 visa appointment.  Practice visa interview is available upon request. Student informs UMass Boston GSSP team the F1 visa result. 

Step 6

Pre-arrival

Student makes travel plans to arrive on-time for orientation.  Student completes all pre-arrival steps (housing, immunization, airport arrival/pickup form).

Step 7

Pay Tuition Fee

Student pays tuition fee listed on the invoice sent along with I-20 package.

Step 8

Arrival

Student attends orientation and begins classes at UMass Boston.
